Fairhope, Alabama.
WETLAND MITIGATION
A long-planned project to restore 5.6 acres of wetlands along CR 32 has begun: Local environmental engineering firm Goodwin, Mills and Cawood has already cut out invasive species, groomed the land, set the stream base, and planted hundreds of native tree species (oak, pine, cedar, etc.).
When completed, the site will become an official conservation easement and stream mitigation bank -- forever reserved for that purpose.
GMC recently purchased the property from the city's Airport Authority to "mitigate" damage to wetlands at an un-named construction project somewhere in Mobile County.
According to an earlier report, the AA sold the property for about $10K per acre: the money will go toward airport debt repayment.
(The sale of another parcel of airport land to adjacent Hy Grade Valve Inc. (for expansion) is expected to close soon as well.
