Demolition of most of the Alternative School on Twin Beech Road has been completed -- and work on the newer buildings around the K-1 on Church St. is to begin shortly.
The oldest part of the Twin Beech school (the gray Anna T. Jeanes) was spared; plans are to convert that into a black history museum of some sort, as was done at the W..J. Carrol school campus in in Daphne years ago
The demolition was held up for a while -- when some old 'grease traps' were uncovered.
'PELICAN'S NEST' TO REMAIN
All of the small buildings around the central K-1 will be demolished, including the old cafe and 1960s-era brick classrooms on the corner; only the Pelican's Nest Science Lab will remain and stay in operation.
A new chain-link fence is to be installed around the property's perimeter.
OLD INTERMEDIATE TO STAY TOO
The former Intermediate School on Bishop Rd. is to be kept intact for now, and used for current classroom needs (if necessary) -- or possibly for the county's College Access Program (CAP).
ALL DEPENDS ON MARCH 31ST VOTE
According to local School Board Representative Christenberry, the plans are only tentative and could change depending on the outcome of the upcoming school tax referendum.
