POSSIBLE REMAKE?
The Times' entertainment reporter discovered a crew filming this morning on CR48 at Bohemian Park, along the banks of Fish River: someone there said it was a film to be called called 'Isle du Soleil' ("Island in the Sun").
A vehicle had that title written on its door as well; and the Alabama Film Office website indicates a movie by that name would be filming in the Mobile Bay area until May 1st.

The cameras were set up near the bridge and actors were downstream, around the bend.
Unlike past film productions in the area, little information seems available online at this time; but based upon the title provided to us, preliminary research indicates this may (possibly) be a remake of a 1957 production by the same name -- staring Harry Belafonte, James Mason, Joan Collins, and several other well-known actors of the day.
That version, produced by the legendary Darryl T. Zanuk and based on a novel by Alec Maugh, was set on a Caribbean-island plantation; it was considered "racy" for the time, according to critics:
"Set on a fictitious island in the Caribbean during colonial British
rule, it focuses on the life of a young charismatic and handsome black
male with political aspirations. He finds himself confused on returning
home when his romantic liaison with a white female tends to conflict
with his political views ... . The
plot is further strengthened by a look at the lives of a white ex-pat
family also living on the island. The family has to deal with problems
of infidelity, racism and murder."
(Note: Bohemian Park gets its name from a "colony" of early 20th century immigrants who settled south of Silverhill, from the ancient central-European province of Bohemia, now central Czechoslovakia.)
