Repairs Underway to Eroded Beach

Fairhope, Alabama. (

After suffering another beating from Winter storms, the north end of Magnolia Beach is being repaired: water seems to build up and rise to higher levels in that cove-like area.

The numerous bulkheads along the shoreline, slowly-rising bay water level, and blockage of new sand naturally coming down creeks and gullies are some causes.

The extent/cost of the current effort has not been announced yet.

There appears to be damage to a storm water drainage pipe from the streets above as well.

A strategy for long-term beach sand replenishment is in early planning stages as well.

It is a losing battle. Mother Nature will win.
