Baldwin School Board Appoints Community Task Force

Fairhope, Alabama.

CITIZEN ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Baldwin School Board tonight
At a special meeting in Loxley tonight, the Baldwin County School Board voted unanimously to appoint a 27-member committee to develop a community-based  five year strategic plan to "help create a picture of what the citizens want" and "bring us closer to their expectations."

(full list below)

Teachers and other employees are developing an independent strategic plan of their own as well; School Board members will have to reconcile the two into a final form of their own.

Nominations were made by mayors (and county commissioners) -- and compiled by Terry Burkle of the Baldwin Education Coalition who coordinated the effort.

Burkel recommended approving all: She had personally spoken with each and was "confident" they had the childrens' "best-interest at heart" -- with no personal agendas.

Christenberry, right
She may want to add a representative (parent of) for private schools and home schooling later, if ones can be found.

An "independent" facilitator may be needed as well for the meetings, at the board's expense.

Their first meeting will be July 9th in Robertsdale.

FAIRHOPE'S REPRESENTATIVES

Vickie Bailey, Tommy Faust Jr., Kathy Sternenberg. Kelly McGriff, and Cody Phillips were appointed to be Fairhope's representatives: they were all nominated by Mayor Kant, according to Rep. Cecil Christenberry.

Cody Philips
(Council President Jack Burrell told the Times' edcucation reporter later that the mayor had asked him for suggestions, but chose others.)

Several members expressed reservations about Cody Philips who unsuccessfully ran for county commissioner last year -- and has close ties with the Common Sense Campaign (Tea Party) group that worked against the March referendum; but they wound up voting for him anyway.

It never ceases to amaze me that those who preach tolerance are the most intolerant among us. And the fact that you would make ignorant assumptions about someone is quite sad. I don't understand where the hate is coming from since you are getting everything you could possibly want. The "transformation" of America and the changing of our history and culture. I guess some people will never be happy.

I just do not want the federal govenment turning my precious children into america and Jesus hating homos? Something wrong with that?

Uh, would jughead please elaborate about the" transformation of America" now underway? Are public schools and Obama responsible?

This whole crisis could be solved next week if our wimpy county commisoners and state legislators would man-up and do what needs to be done. Ever hear of leadership?

Citizens, want everything from goverment, but for free. So-called conservatives are always first in line for their favorite government handouts it seems.

Raise taxes for schools and new roads too. Going to happen eventually anyway.
