After individually interviewing several candidates, the city council unanimously selected Deborah A. Smith to be the new city Treasurer replacing the retiring Nancy Wilson.
For the last two years, Smith has been the financial director for the Presbyterian Retirement Corporation Inc. at Westminster Village in Spanish Fort.
A University of South Alabama graduate with a BS degree in accounting, she has worked as a CPA for various accounting firms in the Mobile/Pensacola area, according to online records.
She also has certifications as a global management accountant (CGMA) -- and is working on an interim basis until Wilson departs at the end of the month.
Treasurer is a Grade 28 position: salary range from $57,342 to $91,748.
(Smith is no relation to Planning Director Johnathan Smith. The names of the other applicants were not released, because of confidentiality concerns.)
