New Laundromat Nearing Completion

Fairhope, Alabama. (fairhopetimes@att.net)

ON S. HWY 181

The new coin-operated laundromat store is nearing completion on Hwy 181 at Twin Beech Rd.

The way the east side of town is developing ("tacky, another Airport Blvd.") was a major topic during community strategic (ACE) and comprehensive planning forums last year; but the city council has so-far failed to take any action.

The Times has asked for the updated strategic plan required for the Alabama Communities of Excellence (ACE) certification, but was told it is not yet ready -- even though the mayor and council accepted the final certifiction last month.

looks like a storage building.....cheap. Ugly to say the least

All the money and attention goes to the old towners west of Greeno, while the east side becomes just another sprawling urban wasteland.

Much needed facility

Actually there are eyesores on the West side also. Just take a look at all the trash on short street and cliff drive. The tourists are coming though so their sprucing up the park and downtown.

Facilities like this make 181 look more and more like Mobile's Dauphin Island "Parkway", a misnomer if there ever was one! So much for Fairhope's opportunity to develop an aesthetic community containing urban sprawl...

There are enough voters on the East side of Greeno Road to change the complexion of the City council and the mayor's office. But instead of voting, they feign indifference. If you can't invest the time to learn about issues and actually go vote, then you deserve what you get. The election is next year, so now is the time to start.

It is not much to look at but we need a laundromat.

so ,, the apathetic people are the problem?

why can't we do something about it . rather than just complaining all the time?

We spend millions of our taxdollars to hjelp the businesses attract more customers but neglect the neighborhoods? Why do we let it go on.

Neighborhoods? As in your personal property? Well some of the neighborhoods that I have experienced in Fairhope have some homeowners that do not take care of their property. I had a neighbor across the street from me that would cut his grass after it was long and unsightly and blow the cuttings(hay) in the street towards my house . Those are the type of people that need to live NOT in a neighborhood. Kids ran CRAZY and ill mannered, Long story short ,neighborhoods start with good respectful neighbors

Without tourist your property value goes way down

The tourist are funding your pocket. So stop complaining

Your saying no one votes from the east side. That's funny know your demographics before speaking

My property taxes would go down also, along with traffic and noise and other taxes. It could be what it once was, a peaceful bedroom community.

So many people have moved to Fairhope for what it was/is and than proceed to change Fairhope for their personal profit.

The tourists are not funding anything for me. They have though changed Fairhope forever. As always a few profit and stomp down any opposition. You call it complaining, I call it my right to speak out just as you have.

Remember everyone, this is the new Fairhope, only an elite (perceived) few have the right to an opinion.

too funny your house ,property value would not be where it is without a reason to come here

Only the ones who were born and raised here really matter . the rest of us have to grin and bear it.

And so many older people would not be forced to move out of their home of 30 plus years due to the new high cost of living in Fairhope. But as long as you get yours who cares.
