Former School Tax Enemies Become Allies

Fairhope, Al.

DECISION TIME NEARS

Voting day, March 2015
It has often been said that "politics makes strange bedfellows" and that is surely the case with Fairhope residents Cecil Christenberry  and Louis Campomenosi who were on polar-opposite sides during the tax referendum last March -- but now support the same candidate for school superintendent: Carl "Eddie" Tyler.

"Dr. Lou" is president of the regional Common Sense Tea Party; one other board member has publicly supported Tyler as well,  Myrick.

Repealing so-called 'common core' curriculum standards has always been a high  Tea Party priority, but Christenberry believes that is not Tyler's objective.

He added there "have always been" many things he and Dr. Lou agree on.

(Fairhope chapter Tea Party director Cody Philips also supports Tyler; activist Mathew Brown has not indicted a preference, to our knowledge.)

VOTE WON''T BE UNANIMOUS?

All interviews have now been completed and the final vote will be held Thursday in Loxley; but it is unlikely the appointment will be unanimous.

Tyler being interviewed.
Sources tell the Times' political reporter that at least one school board member favors Dr.James Stevens and possibly one (or two?) others Dr. John Green for the job.

One question asked of all candidates was "will you  accept the position if the vote is not unanimous" -- and all replied affirmatively, except Stevens who said he would "have to think about" it if it were 4-3.

Phillips, Campomenosi, Brown, Tyler.

Of course they would support Tyler. He's Mobile/Baldwin county born and bred. If this surprises anyone you're a fool.

So, the only qualification for the job is that he be born and raised here?

No. The only consideration is that he is born and raised here. They don't want someone from the "outside" to come in and change things. Ask the former chief of police for Fairhope how that worked out for him.

people from fairhope think that they are in an elite place but oh my goodness it is just another southern very small close minded town nothing special by far. Drive through any small town in the south it is the same . Yes , flowers and all

Seems to me that somebody to come in and change things is exactly what is needed in this case.

The egotistical "natives" have made a mess of things.

Tyler got runout of Eufaula did he not? Fired some good-ole-boy coaches up there.

"Qualifications" on paper are only a small part of the equation in the hiring process .... intangibles matter a lot too.

Fairhope people do not like change , they like the you do this for me and I will do this for you AKA good ole boy way of life That is why it looks the way it does and nothing is ever done right ie, drainage, neighborhoods in my opinion library Can't blame wal mart for everything!

Just seems like you all complaining must like it enough to stay. There are no fences built around Fairhope, you may leave any time you want.

My house is for sale, can't wait to leave, please buy it!

To above comment about you can leave...first you have to sell your house to the next fool that thinks that Fairhope is something it is not . Taxes too high , it smells and kudzu and some of these neighborhoods are inflated. Drive through some and look at surrounding neighbors, they don't take care of their houses and outsiders come in and think this neighborhood sucks for the price!

I agree I use to live there and my neighborhood and some neighbors were gross to say the least but the homes on the bay are beautiful. when you try to sell your home you have to compete with Horton homes (cheaply built with a lot of square ft) My realtor kept telling me no one wants to live in the particular neighborhood that my house was in . They would buy across the street (Horton) My neighborhood was the worst one that I ever lived in all of my life!!! With that said outside the neighborhood it was enjoyable and met some very sweet and life long friends!

HA, seems the commenter about "you can leave Fairhope." Seems someone hit a nerve. You must be someone benefiting from the good ole boy system. Let's not change a thing you might not be the one for the job if it requires someone to have qualifications to do the job right..... just saying
