New Sidewalk Proposed For CR13

Fairhope, Alabama

A federal Transportation Alternative Grant (TAP) is being applied for to construct a 1.17 mile sidewalk/elevated walking trail along CR13 from the new Manley Road Soccer complex northward over Cowpen Creek past the Colony Nature Park to the Sedgefield neighborhood (Sedgefield Drive).

The estimated cost is under $500K and the city's share will be 20% (matching funds).

The Eastern Shore MPO is in the process of adding this to its 'visionary list' as well; construction should begin in 2017 if approved by ALDOT.

We have to work on getting one between Greeno and hwy 13 along Gayfer.

1/2 million dollars for a sidewalk seems very high to me. We, in Sedgefield, had to pay personally for or put our own sidewalks in. It would seem only fair for those whose properties are affected, along CR13, should also be treated the same.

That was our thought as well; the $500K appears on the preliminary MPO grant document.

Apparently, some of the trail will be elevated, over the creek or wetlands ... possibly accounting for the added cost.

If we learn more we will post it here.

I thought this area was county not city?? Or is that what Fairhope says when it benefits them!! BACKWARDS TOWN!!!!

CR13 was brought into the city about a year and a half ago, all the way up to HWY 104 ....

FYI, the city council approved this grant application request at today's council meeting ... $500K ... city's share will be $100K of that ... if it is approved. Construction would be in 2017.

well that does not explain the sidewalks that were done across the street from 44 ( going towards bay) several years ago, I know that was county but sidewalks all the way down the street I tried to get a dog rescued from scorching heat and NO WATER. The dog was chained with a heavy metal chain and all jerry said was is that it is county. That showed no compassion and I still think about that poor dog till this day!

What about connecting grids within the older city limits before building so far out? County 44, ESPECIALLY from County 13 to Boothe Road has young cyclists competing for roadway with drivers blinded by the sunrise and sunset. AWFUL stretch of portending tragedy.

Really? So you are not worried about "ALL" just the "young" cyclist? Well my advice to you is simply common sense. If you are fearful that the road is dangerous because of visibility , do as I do ride or in my case walk somewhere else!!!! That is a narrow stretch of road and very busy so go down another road it is that simple!!! Fairhope in a whole has catered to cyclist but it is up to you to use common sense

I find it very odd that most of the sidewalk contracts go to a member of the planning and zoning board. Ethics? Ha,Kants bff
