Silverhill's Police Chief Fired

Fairhope, Alabama

SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING

Attorney Nelson standing
This evening, the Silverhill town council voted  to dismiss its police chief Kim Wasdin for unspecified "insubordination and dereliction of duty."

Wasdin's attorneys Narissa Nelson and Lloyd Taylor* argued she had been denied due process and state open meeting laws had not been followed (proper meeting notice); but town attorney Myrick gave assurances that all was done properly in accordance with the law.

Referring to a private communication earlier in the day between his client and a council member concerning his involvement in the case, Taylor threatened to sue the town and each council member personally if Wasdin was discharged.

Mayor Wilson briefly referred to one instance where Wasdin had failed to follow his direction regarding the timely filing of insurance documents -- and others there mentioned a "shouting match" between the two.

Councilman Gruenloh called it a "difficult situation" for everyone involved but assured the audience the mayor and council had the best interests of the community at heart with no personal agendas: He then made the motion for dismissal which was approved unanimously and they all quickly left the room.

*Sources tell the Times attorney Taylor may be a relative of Zach Taylor who was involved in a fight leading to a shooting death last summer west of the town. We are working to confirm this.
