New Fairhope Weather Siren Being Tested

"BIG BERTHA" AWAKES

The city's proposed weather siren is being tested weekly on Tuesdays, 6:30PM.

The siren was formerly used as a fire alarm up until the early 1990s.

Those in the vicinity of the Welcome Center when it is set off from the Police Station can testify to its effectiveness (very loud).

Okay, all you nay sayers! What is the deal with one time a month to check it out? We put up with First Friday Art Walk once a month! Wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry? How long does the blast last? 5 minutes top! Get real! At least Fairhope is doing something besides planting flowers.

Get real. People already have enough weather warnings in their pockets these days, their phones.

Also, another lawsuit in the making when somebody's hearing gets blown out by the unnecessary thing ......

You're a fool if you rely on your phone in impeding weather. What are you going to do when you loose cell service? There are weather sirens strewn all over this country to help protect people and this one is REAL basic compared to what we could have.. but it's a start in the right direction. We should be blessed that the city is doing this. I remember this siren sounding all of the time in the 80's and 90's when the fire department had a call, often several times a day. It was just part of Fairhope. You self-important folks can deal with it once a week or month. Lawsuit my foot... get over yourselves. This is probably the same guy complaining about airplanes and kids playing too loud.

It seems that quality interpretation of the written word has gone by the wayside. Pretty certain that several of these comments were intended as good ole socio-political sarcasm. Should have put an "LOL" at the end of my comment to make the joke more obvious. HAHA and LOL.
