Conyers Wins Runoff Election For Final Council Spot

Fairhope, Alabama

Challenger Jimmy Conyers has defeated incumbent Diana Brewer in the runoff for city council place three.

Conyers received 1,791 votes (66%) to Brewer's 921 (34%).

The new government will be sworn in on November 7th.

Three incumbents were unseated during this election cycle; another did not seek re-election.

Conyers posted remarks to his Facebook page:

"Incredibly honored to be elected to Fairhope City Council! We had an incredible team of volunteers and supporters who worked tirelessly during the initial campaign and subsequent runoff. Hats off to Diana Brewer for keeping everything above board and for running an equally solid campaign. You were a formidable opponent and I appreciate your service. I know that you love Fairhope as much as I do, best wishes.
And thank you Fairhope, I look forward to serving you!!!"

Perhaps we can now move forward with the business of the City in peace.

Hey Fairhope politicians - this should be a very clear message. Ignore the input of the citizens that elected you and they will come out in droves and vote by a landslide to put you out of office in the every next election. People are sick of being ignored in favor of private special interests. The times they are a changing...and for the better in Fairhope.

Mob rule by the ignorant/mis-informed masses will lead us to disaster as well ....

I agree with "Hey Fairhope politicians ". This should be a message. There's still one on I wish we could recall, but we'll get him next time.

The people of Fairhope want limited controled growth. Thanks to the Fairhope voters!

If you are really concerned about quality of life do something about the military plane dogfights over the city every day!

The Rock Creek and FRG gang bear close watching now. They are going to want a lot of special favors for themselves and cronies.

Happy to see that voters turned out and supported change in our community government. This should be a clear warning to the new Administration. Now let's all work together toward our common goals.

Who are the Rock Creek & FRG gang and why would they want favors? Sorry to sound stupid but I truly don't understand the comment.

It's extremely obvious that most of you folks
weren't here 5 or 6 years ago! Extremely Obvious!!!

I did not support or vote for Diana, but I agree with the comments about her being a smart, hard working lady. This mayor and council would be wise, in my opinion, to reach out to her and find a place for her to serve her city.

I followed all the campaigns closely. Brewer started out with about 5 differences between herself and Conyers and ended up with about 1 1/2.
He probably thought he was running against himself in the end !
I think all of the councilmen, old and new, in this new group will make an excellent council. The new Mayor should do fine also.
