Fairhope Firemen Get New Truck

Fairhope, Alabama

Typhoon Rescue Pumper

COST TO BE SHARED

The city council voted to share the $517,157 purchase price for a new E-ONE Typhoon Rescue Pumper fire truck with the Volunteer Fire Department; the city's share will be $322,189 and the VFD's $194,968.

The city's portion will come from impact fees imposed on new development.

Sunbelt Fire Company, which has an outlet in the city, will build the truck and deliver it by December 1st, to be used at Fire Station #1.

Mayor Wilson said she supported the purchase as well, even though the city may be facing budget shortfalls due to the current coronavirus emergency, because funding is from the impact fund account which has a balance of $1 million.

A spokesman for the Fire Department said the price could go up if not purchased now.

Money well spent!

Thank you.

Why isn't the Fire Department tax-supported? I admire the Fairhope VFD, it serves everyone, and should not have to rely on donations.

Including the new truck, the Volunteer Fire Department will receive $1,085,927 from the city in FY 2020 ... according to this year's municipal budget.

It also receives a share of county property tax with other VFD's.

FVFD tax returns indicate charitable contributions amount to only about $30K per year.

The FVFD is a 501(c)4 nonprofit corporation.

Sure is a shame that the Utilities had to cut there budgets close to a Million dollars a d were not allowed to order trucks and equipment, to make sure the all other parts of the City that are not making money can continue to function. Hmmm wonder if they could have waited a few more months to see how things turn out.
