The pier at American Legion Post 199 was severely damaged by tropical storm Cristobal; it had been rebuilt only two years ago with volunteer labor and donated materials.

It may be their pier but occasionally they put a sign out saying the beach is opened to the public, sorry but that beach belongs to the public to the mean tide line, it’s not yours.

You do relize that the location is a place for those that put it all on the line. And I mean all, so go kick the sand someplace else.

Yeah that’s what they are saying. Come enjoy our beach above the mean tide line which is their private property. Duh.

I'm a veteran and have put it all on the line.
I served so you would be free to kick sand in my face!

My thoughts on this subject.
The pier and the beach are maintained, repaired, cleaned and overall cared for by veterans and the Sons. We welcome all but it seem the very kind of people that are critical of not having access are the ibes not willing to contribute to the expense of keeping it and welcoming for all. So before you get too possessive of a beach sustained by veteran legionnaires, Sons, auxilliary and others be willing to put your effort on the line to sustain it.
