That sounds like a wish, inside a sneer, wrapped in a weak stab at humor.
Bless your heart.

A failure of leadership. Not just the mayor though.

Agreed. The City Council and the Mayor are being incredibly irresponsible, but we knew that this was coming when Sullivan was elected. No one ever turns out for local elections and Fairhope will pay dearly for this one. I'm sure that the new Mayor is a great person but she has left the gate and immediately made a fool of herself. She has 4 years to learn and do better....fingers crossed that she does so. That said, it appears to have been a beautiful evening downtown and the children were enchanted!

No. It was just a lot of irresponsible people acting badly.

Strongly disagree. The city leadership has a responsibility to keep the citizens safe. This event and others like it will be well attended by citizens until the city steps up and cancels them.
Leadership starts at the top. Not from the bottom.

Sacrificing liberty, reason, and proportion does not serve the common good. On the contrary.

Shame on Fairhope! With increasing COVID infection rates and Baldwin County listed as "Very High" risk category this event demonstrates poor leadership.
Additionally, watching the local TV station video of the event and see very few not wearing a mask or social distancing I fear the worst is to come. And to further complicate the issue, Thomas Hospital announced that the ICU is at 100% occupancy.

I just got off the phone with the ICU House Supervisor at Thomas Hospital (6:30 am, November 26), and she confirms that Thomas is not at 100% and would not turn anyone away, even if it were.
Moreover, she confirms that there is no such mechanism for "announcements" of full capacity.
Further still, she explains that the hospital has reached 100% capacity many times (though not today)--with or without COVID. "There is no rhyme of reason," she noted. That is: there is no crisis at Thomas, COVID or otherwise.
So, for anyone looking for the truth, please beware this revealed and pernicious willingness to spread blatant falsehoods about COVID in order to shame, scold, and beat us into submission to irrational fear and government lockdowns.
If you don't believe me, make your own call. Thomas's number is listed, and the House Manager seems to be a lovely person who, on Thanksgiving Day, is serving our community. She was courteous, rational, and forthcoming--the opposite of the condescending, hysterical, and dissembling COVID scolds here and across the globe.
Have a happy Thanksgiving with those you love. We Americans have much to be thankful for today, but tomorrow we should rededicate ourselves to preserving it.
Thomas Hospital's Chief Medical Officer McBrearty did say in an tv interview earlier this week that ICU beds were full... but his main concern was for coming months,January,February.

Your world must be very small if you have the time and energy to call the ICU supervisor and especially at 6:30 a.m. when meds are being administered, vitals checked right before a shift change.
Having had a loved one in the ICU this year I know that those people work non-stop for hours. They have done it before covid and they will continue to do it after covid is controlled.
They are some of the most skilled medical professionals we have and I can assure you that your phone call about something insignificant to support your agenda took valuable time away from patients who need their time and attention.
Get a life. Get a job. Volunteer. Become an investigative reporter but please move along.

Which station, which day, what time? We need to know exactly what he said, so that we can follow up and learn the truth.

Pay attention folks: when the facts are inconvenient, out come the ad hominem attacks.
Whether it's COVID, or climate, or gender--if you challenge the new orthodoxy, you're a loser, selfish, irresponsible, deplorable, _______________-phobic, a Nazi.
So, when you see insults and name-calling, you know that an unspeakable truth has been uttered, that a nerve has been touched. In our emerging Orwellian nightmare, the truth cannot be allowed to see daylight.
If we wish to preserve our culture, our country, we must speak the truth. WE must resist.
