Clay Tennis Courts Damaged By Storms

NEED RESURFACING 

Repair bid proposals are being solicited for six clay hydrocourts at Stimpson Park that were damaged by "wind driven rain." 

Damaged crushed stone surface (called Hydroblend) needs to be removed and replaced (5 tons/court) and the courts laser graded for proper slope according to specifications. 

The courts were constructed in 2016 for $410K.

(It is not clear yet whether the repairs would be eligible for FEMA reimbursement.)

Seriously? You paid over $400,000 only four years ago and "wind driven rain" ruined them.....ah gee wind driven rain near the coast....who would have thought that would ever happen here? What kind of contract was signed four years ago? No guarantee/warranty for the work? That's really expensive tennis.

Can”’t argue with the last post. I have never heard of a tennis court being damaged by wind driven rain. What gives ?

You do not know much about tennis then. clay courts need a lot more maintenace than hard surface ones.

I do know about clay courts and I know we're not the French Open. I do understand that they need a lot of maintenance. That was my whole point you obviously missed. We get a lot of heavy rain here, right??? Therefore, one should not put in a clay court given the fact no one will warranty the court/work will last. In essence its a money pit and no one can play tennis on it because a clay court can't handle..."wind driven rain".

This is why we need new city council members. People that have some common sense.

The clay courts were approved by the city council at the time in 2014 but it was not unanimous. Councilman Boone and Ford voted no, preferring traditional hard surface asphalt ones because of lower maintenance costs.
