ENCOURAGE OTHERS TOO
Mayor Sullivan, Councilman Conyers and Burrell were among those receiving their first Pfizer vaccinations during an employee availability last week at Thomas Hospital.
Councilman Burrell, who contracted and recovered from the disease himself last summer, told the Times he wanted to get vaccinated as soon as possible to "set an example" for the city's workforce; only about 40% had participated so far, he said.
Burrell said it was important for all other citizens to participate as well, so that regular activities may resume sooner rather than later. (The Arts and Crafts Festival is still scheduled for the end of April.)
About 75% of the population needs to be vaccinated to achieve "herd immunity" to the disease, according to the heath department.

I'll take my chances among the 25%. As long as vaccines and masks work--as science scripture teaches--we, the benighted 25%, only have ourselves to blame if we get sick. The enlightened 75% have nothing to fear. Science says so.
We are the ones we've been waiting for.
We could use the money to buy some of those for events so that we never again have to be paralyzed by fear of a super-spreader.
This seems more rational than allowing Frankenstein mRNA to enter our dendritic cells and the macrophages of our lymph nodes. Then again, rationality is a bit passé in 2021.
It does not shock me that many refuse vaccine though the numbers still surprise me. It will work out. If you don’t get COVID fine. If you do fine. You made the choice. Your demise might scare some others into getting vaccinated.
The city should consider failure to vaccinate when evaluating employees for promotion to supervisory positions. Yes I know 1 in a thousand has a legitimate reason to pass on the shot(s). I am talking about the Other 999.
My demise? I had COVID, but no demise that I noticed. It did, however, leave me immune to hysteria, overweening theatrics, and high-handed scolding.
As for government employment, my guess is that those of us eschewing the vaccine rarely look to government to put bread on our tables.
Credulity and dependency seem not only to come together, but also in bunches.
