Update: Details are still scarce but a second movie, called 'Bruiser', is filming around town now. It is about "a teenager who returns home from boarding school to a strained relationship with his stepfather ... and his biological father who returns to try to mend his relationship with his son as well." (They will not be using the K-1 building itself for filming as far as we know, but equipment is being staged in the parking lot in back.)

CALLED "JESUS REVOLUTION"
The city council has passed a resolution allowing Jesus Revolution, Llc. to use parts of the city's K-1 building on S. Church Street and North Beach Park for filming of the new movie 'Jesus Revolution' in early March.
The Erwin Brothers, Jon and Andrew, are the producers. Alabama natives, they are sons of former Alabama Senator Hank Erwin.
Synopsis: "Based on the book by the same name, JESUS REVOLUTION tells the story of a young Greg Laurie being raised by his struggling mother, Charlene in the 1970s. Laurie and a sea of young people descend on sunny Southern California to redefine truth through all means of liberation. Inadvertently, Laurie meets Lonnie Frisbee, a charismatic hippie-street-preacher, and Pastor Chuck Smith who have thrown open the doors of Smith’s languishing church to a stream of wandering youth. What unfolds becomes the greatest spiritual awakening in American history. Rock and roll, newfound love, and a twist of faith lead to a JESUS REVOLUTION that turns one counterculture movement into a revival that changes the world."
FAMOUS TV ACTOR STARRING
Kelsey Grammer, of television's 'Cheers' and ''Frasier fame, is set to star in the film as Pastor Chuck Smith.
According to Deadline magazine: "Kelsey Grammer, Anna Grace Barlow, Jonathan Roumie and Nicholas Cirillo have joined the cast of Jesus Revolution, the Kingdom Story Company and Lionsgate film inspired by the true story of a national spiritual awakening in the early 1970s and its origins within a community of teenage hippies in Southern California. Grammer will star alongside Joel Courtney as well as Barlow and Roumie, and Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Ally Ioannides, Julia Campbell, Nic Bishop, and Jolie Jenkins."

EARLY MARCH FILMING SET
City special projects manager Jessica Walker said the production wants to use the K-1 and north beach park area from about March 7-10th. All appropriate permits, insurance, deposits, and fees will be required beforehand, she added.
According to company representative Bass Hampton, the film is to be about the true life story of former "hippie" Greg Laurie, who went on to found the Harvest Christian Fellowship Church in Southern California; two rooms at the K-1 will be used as a youth military academy Laurie once attended and a 20' camper/trailer will be set up at north beach, like one Laurie and his mother lived in in the early 1960s. Some "driving" scenes may be shot along CR 13 as well, he said.
EXTRAS STILL NEEDED?
According to online pre-production information, various "authentic 1960s-looking" extras are needed for the production (click).
(In 2013 the movie 'Somnia' was filmed at the K-1 as well.)
