| Dyas homestead to be donated? |
POSSIBLE DONATION
A house at 23430 Main Street on 1.76 acres along Fly Creek formerly owned by members of the Dyas family could become property of the city if negotiations with current owner 'The Triangle Conservancy' work out, according to mayor Sullivan.
The property was not included in the city's $8.75 million 2014 purchase of the adjacent 108 acre triangle, because some of the Dyas family still lived there at the time.
According to public records, the 'Triangle Conservancy' purchased the property from Ellen Dyas in April of 2021, for $700K.
Established in 2018, The Triangle Conservancy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization created specifically to preserve, protect, and enhance the Triangle (also known as the Dyas Triangle) in Fairhope, Alabama.
Unfortunately, founding member and president John Martin passed away in January 2022 and biologist/consultant Dr. E.O. Wilson December of last year. George Roberbs is listed as its current president.
WELCOME CENTER?
Sullivan said the condition of the building is currently being evaluated by the city, and the city council could ultimately decide its fate. Upgrades like ADA disability access would be needed if the house were to be utilized for a welcome center or some other public purpose, she said. Insurance and maintenance are other considerations.
A plan for walking trails and other amenities for the northern half of the triangle has already been approved by the city council.
