Council To Select Final Waterfront Plan Design

Fairhope, Alabama

Possible lift design.

New waterfront plan.

Scot Hutchinson of GMC Engineering presented the long-awaited, re-designed working waterfront proposal from the steering committee to the city council.

He said the area is to remain much the same visually, with the addition of some parking spaces, sidewalks, and a new staircase midway in south park; a cable car lift will be added at the south staircase to satisfy federal disability access requirements. A new restroom is to be added south of the parking lot.

The council will have to select final designs for the cable car lift (open or closed car?), pier entrance artwork, material finish for the new seawall along south park, and other technical/safety requirements (railings?).

Mayor Sullivan said the decision should be made at the next council meeting, since time is running out to use the $6 million federal RESTORE grant.

Is the pier, both walkway & boat docks to be repaired with this same 6M, at the same time of the other changes? Didn't get very excited over the radius pier sign over the pier entrance. Will the restaurant at the pier be renovated?
Thank you and good luck

Just a simple ramp would be better than that contraption!

The engineer did not mention the marina at the pier during his presentation. We understand there is some news coming about the restaurant though. No details yet ... .
