New County Zoning Committees Seeking Members

Fairhope, Alabama

New district maps.

Final Vote Count.

ADVISORY COMMITTEES FORMING

The next step in the zoning process is the formation of an Advisory Committee for each of the new districts (37 and 8).

Here are some basic facts about the advisory committees.

  • 5 members
  • Appointed by the County Commission
  • Must be a registered voter residing in the district
  • Membership should represent the diversity of land uses in the district
  • Committees will probably meet 4-6 times over the course of 2-3 months
  • Responsible (with staff assistance) for recommending a zoning text and map for the new district
  • Automatically disbands once the final text and map area adopted by the County Commission
If you are interested in serving on the Advisory Committee for District 8 or District 37? If so, please fill out one of the interest forms and email as soon as possible to planning@baldwincountyal.gov.

Congratulations to all that worked hard to bring this about. The right thing wins out in the end.

So inspiring to see younger people getting involved in local politics! Hope for the future.

This is a horrible idea, the county wanted this zoned and found some naive cheerleaders to put it to a vote.it is just more government. It will not stop growth. Just creates more bureaucracy. Developers with $$$$ will find a way around it while average low income landowners are now stuck. Thanks.

The multitude are easily led..... it is a sad day that the county feeds the voters a bunch of male bovine manure.

Much needed. Last post is simply wrong. How are low income landowners stuck ? Only if they have a lot of land and want to sell to high density developers. They are still not stuck they just cannot sell out for huge profit. If you own 10 or more acres north of town you are not poor. The vast majority of local residents will benefit with zoning.

Most homeowners on acreage lots especially those on Twin beech and barnwell farmers are not "Rich". Many not "rich" generations have been living here and existing well with the unzoned land. Many moved here and are trying to make it like their previous location. We were fine. You are not going to prevent apartments, subdivisions or any other business with your committee.

This comment is for the Blogger of "Much needed".... You obviously have very little experience with real estate. If you had any property to speak of and/or worked in the real estate industry, you then would be enlightened. You are wrong! Period.

Realtors are only interested in making money. Unfortunately they are running this town now.

"If you own 10 acres you are not poor" What are you then? You are definitely not rich!
