BID ADVERTISING REQUIREMENT NOT MET
The long effort to increase the use of the city's parking garage took an unexpected turn recently when the city council voted to void a $1.2 million contract to Blade Construction it had awarded in January because federal construction advertising requirements had not been met.
According to Eastern Shore MPO coordinator Sarah Sislak, since cost is for more than $500K and the project is partly federally-funded, the project should have been advertised in three regional newspapers (muti-state) to comply with federal bid law, but actually it was only advertised locally in three Gulf Coast Media ones.
Last month, it was decided to delay and re-advertise another federal MPO project, turning lanes at the Gayfer/Greeno Road intersection, for the same reason.
The delay is expect to be at least a month, according to city sources.
