 GEAR JAMMERS CLUB EVENT

The Gear Jammers Car Club of South Baldwin County was first organized on Dec. 17, 1957 in Robertsdale, AL. The first meeting was held at the old Robertsdale Theater (now the NAPA Auto Parts store warehouse). The club was both a "Rod" and "Customs" club as the charter members had both types of cars. There were a number of original cars, but, most had souped up engines. All the members went to the Drag Strip in Pensacola, FL and did pretty good on their runs. They also participated in impromptu races on the back roads in and around Silverhill, AL. There were eleven members, most from Silverhill. The first "hot rod" built in Silverhill is still running and is being rebuilt at this time (Aug 2010). The owners are David and Sybil Lindell of Loxley, AL. The car was originally built by Eric Hallberg and later sold to the Lindells. The club was active for five or six years. As the original members grew older and got married or enlisted in the military, they lost interest in cars and the club and the club died out by 1965.
