"High End" Development Proposed For Highway 181

Fairhope, Alabama

Concept proposal.

Site on Hwy 181 in Fairhope

ACROSS FROM WALMART

Although still in conceptual phase, according to advertisements the new owners of about 10 acres across Hwy 181 from Walmart in east Fairhope are proposing a "high end Main Street retail" development  "with a downtown Fairhope atmosphere," including up to 40 condominiums.  Shops and restaurants are also shown on the drawings with downtown-like architecture.

The property was previously owned by the Klump Family Partnership Llc., which already had the '181 Place PUD' approved for the property in 2009 (see below); any changes will have to be approved by the planning commission.

Since this property is within the city limits, the current development moratorium is not applicable.

Hwy 181 is supposed to be 4-laned through the area by the state, but no funding source has been secured yet.

Does Fairhope atmosphere mean no parking , high prices , lot of goofy tourist and a poisoned bay ?

Will there be a clock corner and parking shortage?

Will there be blog posters who only have negative things to say, offer no solutions, and give us unintended opportunities to laugh?

The solutions start with people saying negative things . There will be fools who think otherwise .

This is one of the bigger problems in Fairhope. No one wants to discuss the negatives. They just want to plant flowers on it and talk about how pretty it looks.

Negative comments, absent solutions, solve nothing. Quite the opposite.

Perhaps you are the negative?

Only in an Orwellian world where snarky ambiguities masquerade as pithy rejoinders. I prefer to live in Fairhope, where life often approaches the aspirations of the name. Though imperfect, we are blessed.

We are blessed, indeed. Along the same lines as Churchill speaking of democracies, I suggest that Fairhope is the worst, except for all the others. Perhaps, some folks need to travel more to learn how coarse, corrupt, and uncomfortable a way of life can be.

I have traveled much. Fairhope is as corrupt and now more uncomfortable than most towns its size.

Wow. Home prices are at an all time high; I'd move if I had such contempt for my community.

It’s not contempt just the reality that while Fairhope is an ok town it once was a good town, but it has never been the one and only utopia in the US.

The liberals living here are now trying to cancel anyone who doesn’t agree with them.

My apologies, I missed the part where someone claimed that Fairhope is "the one and only utopia in the US." Straw Man arguments are not persuasive, nor are ad hominem attacks.

Good grief Charlie Brown!

There's not one single word on here that attacks anyone.

False: ad hominem in several comments.
