MACHINE BROKEN AGAIN IN FLORIDA
The city has begun stockpiling recyclables because of another mechanical failure at the Emerald Coast Utilities facility in Cantonment Florida, where the city's material is taken for processing.
A press release from the company says parts are not expected to arrive to repair a failed conveyor belt until mid-August.
Mayor Sullivan told the Times Fairhope residents should continue their recycling as usual until repairs are made or some other alternative is found.
Councilman Burrell added: "I think we can find buyers for some of our materials. At least it will not go into the ground."
The city has a contract with the ECU for $15/ton of material; Baldwin County has plans to develop a similar facility, if funding can be found.
