The new double (two-in-one) electric substation on Nichols Avenue at Young Street is now online and carrying load. Part of a $10 million capacity upgrade that was begun in 2019, when the new Morphy Avenue substation is completed later this year it will allow the system to be "looped" during outages to increase reliability as well, according to mayor Sullivan.
Upgrades to the Twin Beech and Volanta substations have already been completed; transmission line upgrades between stations is nearing completion too.
Old substations on Nichols and Church Street (at Morphy) are to be dismantled.
