Town Homes Ok'd For Medical District Lot

Fairhope, Alabama

Update: Since this development is within city limits, it is not subject to the moratorium.

309 S. Ingleside Avenue site.

OLD HOUSE TO BE DEMOLISHED

The city's planning commission unanimously approved plans for a 14-unit mixed-use town home development on 1.62 acres on Ingleside Avenue at Nichols, in the hospital overlay district.

Commercial space (B3b zoning) will be included on some of the first floors, including room for a restaurant.

There are to be eight town homes and four mixed use residential units, with 59 parking spaces.

WCCT Properties Llc. is the owner/developer (Will Carlton).

The city council must give final approval at an upcoming meeting.

A memorial to the 100+ year plus old Lewis home on the site that is to be torn down is to be incorporated in the design as well, where descendants of  Nancy Lewis lived until just recently. Lewis sold property to the city's founders in about 1894, where the Fairhope downtown currently stands; a plaque already exists there on Bancroft Street.

14 units on 1.6 acres. Exactly what Fairhope DOESN’T need😩. Why, planning Commission?😡

The disintegrating neighborhood needs a kickstart in its redevelopment. This might do the trick. A little population density in downtown/business districts is needed to support businesses.

anything would be an improvement in that neighborhood.

Disappointing to lose this very special piece of Fairhope's history. Wish it could have been turned into a pocket park with Museum that could have served community residents and tourists alike.

We need a heritage village to move the old houses to rather than just tear them down.

Who will pay for such an amusement park?
