Hotel Proposed For East Side of Town

Fairhope, Alabama 

Update: During its November meeting, the city's planning commission approved the PUD amendment for this plan.  City council has final approval.

HWY 181 ACROSS FROM WALMART

Kleban Properties is proposing a two story,  88 room Hilton Garden Inn  for commercially-zoned property directly across Hwy 181 from Walmart.

The hotel would be part of a requested amendment to the Idlewild 181 Place PUD that was approved there about ten years ago.

The new development is to be called Boardwalk Village and will include restaurant and retail space.

"Hilton Garden Inn is an American chain of mid-priced, limited or focused service hotels owned by Hilton Worldwide. As of December 31, 2019, it has 862 properties with 126,086 rooms in 49 countries and territories, including 81 that are managed with 15,678 rooms and 781 that are franchised with 110,408 rooms.[1]"

Not needed or wanted !! This will back up to two established subdivisions with houses within 20 feet of this hotel and shopping center!!

We all hate the sprawl and we know that something will be build in this location but we must consider the alternative. A hotel and upscale shopping is much better than a line of fast-food chains with loud intercoms and smelly dumpsters.

When companies "PROPOSE" building it is just like throwing out a fishing line and seeing who bites. This company will never build a Hilton on this property because IT MAKES ZERO SENSE. I have lived here over 20 years and wish I would have documented all of the "PROPOSED" ideas these people with little money throw out there to see who will be suckered into investing. One in recent memory was where judge roy beans old bar was in Daphne. They were going to build "Judges Square" something exactly like this. Drive by today and you see a lot of weeds and dirt. This company is a small company out of Connecticut just trying to make something out of nothing. A Hilton Hotel 10 miles from the interstate and 7 miles from downtown Fairhope is comical.

I don't believe it's 7 miles from downtown. Also, it's clear that we desperately need more hotel rooms. The Hotel and the Hampton are constantly booked up. I think a Hilton Garden Inn would do quite well there.

Instead of walking to town, they might drive to Fairhope and park at one of the many open parking spaces on Fairhope Avenue or Section street.
