CAR PARKING INTERFERENCE

One hole of the 21-hole 'Fairways of Fairhope' disc golf course in Volanta Park has been removed due to conflicts between disc golfers and others parking vehicles in the area of hole #14, aka the "island hole." 

The parking lot is often filled with baseball league/dog park patrons blocking the "flyway" to the hole that was under a big oak tree, despite unofficial warning signs posted.

A verbal altercation between the groups brought the issue to a head recently.

Mayor Sullivan as well as a disc golf spokesman told the Times they hope the closure will be temporary; police can find a solution to parking issues there.

If a person were to park on one of the baseball fields, I'm sure that would make the players of that sport upset too. Why are the players of one sport treated with more respect than the players of another sport. Park where you are supposed to, there are signs.

Unfortunately the baseball parents and dog park people act like they own the place. The park should be able to be used by everyone.

As usual, disc golfers get the short end because people cannot exercise common sense and learn to share. The city already destroyed the first three holes to make way for the new ball fields, never added the basket back to hole 18, and now this removal. The city might as well just remove the course altogether, because it's clear the city cares more about attracting new tee-ball players from adjacent towns than the local disc golfers who have been playing here successfully for over a decade.

The baseball fields have been in this area for more than 30 years. Please with all the complainting. 800 baseball players that dont include mother, father, aunt uncles, grandparents. The issue is the disc golf needed another area but they made room for it to happen, just like the dog park and skate park.

Actually players can only be in Fairhope school area. Cant play in City recreation area. No maybe you are talking about travel teams. What you see at Volanta this time of year is rec ball.

It seems like $50 of plastic chain to protect the disc golf hole would have solved an ongoing issue. Seems like a better choice than ruining a sport for hundreds of disc golf players or maybe a solution to resolve the problem.
