'Juneteenth' 2023 in Fairhope

Fairhope, Alabama

South beach park Juneteenth

 HOLIDAY MONDAY

Celebrating the end of slavery at south beach park in Fairhope today.

Juneteenth is a combination of the words June and nineteenth. It commemorates the day more than two months after the end of the Civil War – and more than two years after Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation – when enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom.

Does anyone know if the City will be open? I have not seen any notices of a holiday and don't know if I should put trash out for Monday morning pickup.
Thanks.

City open as usual.

Doesn't this encroach on Pride Month? What if the rainbow gang showed up to air THEIR grievances during Black History Month? I worry about the triggering potential of such encroachments. This could lead to woke on woke violence.
Thankfully, veterans, soldiers who gave their lives for our freedom, mothers, fathers, our country's founding, and Jesus only get one day--leaving room for others to speak their truth to power and remind us that the UNITED States of America is such a silly idea.
See you in the park during Hispanic Heritage Month this fall!

O, let my land be a land where Liberty
Is crowned with no false patriotic wreath,
But opportunity is real, and life is free,
Equality is in the air we breathe.

Recognizing important events in our nation's history is not 'woke.' It's normal.
In this case, Juneteenth recognizes the promises of 1776 becoming a bit more realized. The holiday is immensely patriotic.
Also...I do believe Jesus gets a lot of days...

If by "important" you mean racialized, divisive, and voguish, the yes.
