More Water Finally Coming To Town

Fairhope, Alabama

CR 48 water pipe being installed.

CONSERVATION STILL NEEDED

An impressive $6.4 million, 24-inch diameter water pipeline that got the go-ahead from the city council last November but was delayed by familiar "supply chain" issues is now being installed along CR 48 and CR 33 by low bidder Hemphill Construction Inc.

The project will bring much-needed water from new wells and pumping equipment in the River Park/Marlow area to the rapidly-growing east and northeast side of town.

Citizens are still being asked to reduce water usage during hot summer months, especially landscape watering, at least until after the project is completed later in the year.

The new pipe begins at water plant number three and ends at the Fairhope Avenue water tank across from Walmart.

A separate $7.3 million project to expand the treatment/pumping plant itself to handle the higher capacity is progressing as well. Creel Inc. is the contractor for that one.

More new wells are in the planning stages too.

New CR 33 pipe.

Plant #3 upgrades too.

Why are rationing water to feed the development that no one wants ?

Overdeveloped

I agree with both above and wondering why developers don’t foot the costs of infrastructure before they build. It truly does not seem reasonable to expect folks to cut back when the runaway growth overtaxes utilities.

It is just poor planning..... or no planning at all. Only reactivate.

Developers do pay for infrastructure improvements. They pay impact fees, pay to have lines run, etc. City and county leaders knew the population was moving here and did little . The houses being sold reflect these charges and the home buyers ultimately pay for the improvements.

Yes finally in the last 3 years developers have had to start paying for some if the cost. Thank you Jason Langley, before he became superintendent, the city had not done anything to make developers pay, and not had installed a new well since 2007. Has anyone seen the change since 2007? Thank You Jason and Fairhope water employees for keeping water flowing.

Hope those big plastic pipes are not giving us all cancer?

The pipe is cement lined ductile iron, not plastic. It has been used for water distribution for a century.
