Police Cars To Get New Engines

Rather than replace two police patrol vehicles currently out of service for $60K each, the city council voted to replace the engines in two of them for $12.6K (for both) -- as requested by chief Hollinghead.

One is a 2018 model and the other a 2019; both have relatively low mileage (68K and 45K) but because of the nature of police work actual engine running times are much greater, according to public works director Johnson who oversees the city's vehicle maintenance department.

The re-manufactured engines come with a 3 year/36K mile warranty, he said.

Strange that the Tahoes are called cars even though they're not. Looks like the city is getting a deal though

Article states due to nature, never says what problem was for these Tahoes. Just because engine runs 24 hours for 3 shifts with little down time. Does not mean this is normal. Look to other departments,same issue? I assume full synthetic oil is used. If so then there is a defect in the engine. Been reported that oil discharge in block is prone to clogg, then turn to sludge w/these V-8. This then burns out engine early. If this was the case to replace with same will give same result. Burned out engine. Maybe new vehicle type is the answer.
