City's Third Publix Grocery Opens

Publix 1799 opens.

After months of delay due to construction issues, customers lined up waiting for Publix grocery store number 1799 to open this morning in the Planters Pointe shopping center at the intersection of Highway 104 and 181 in east Fairhope. 

Other stores in the center will have to wait until early next year to start opening; some infrastructure work remains to be completed.

I love downtown Greer's and shop their regularly but not for paper and most cleaning products. However, they don't protect parking for shoppers and there are many times that I need more than I can carry home w/o a vehicle and I end up going to Publix so that I can park. Everyone that parks in Greers' lot and goes elsewhere is promoting the demise of our only local grocery. Perhaps the City Council should step up and police this parking lot so that we do retain a grocery store for those that have no transport.
