Fairhope's Water Shortfalls Over?

NEW FACILITIES COMING ONLINE NOW

The water shortfalls experienced last summer should be a thing of the past as new wells, pumps, treatment equipment, and pipelines begin coming online next month.

The new 24" diameter, $6.4 million water pipeline running north along CR 33 (River Park Road) and CR 48 to the water tank next to Walmart should be coming online in April, according to mayor Sullivan.

Sullivan: " .... they are doing some testing but the water line should be complete the first week of April. The well needs a little additional work and all will come online in mid to late April. Just in time for summer. "

The new facilities should provide access to about 2 million more gallons a day for the city's almost 22 thousand current water customers this summer.

The water system expansion began in June 2022 with first well-drilling, but ran into delays due to familiar "supply chain issues" blamed on the Covid pandemic.

Total cost was around $15 million.

Further expansion, including drilling of still another well has begun near the same site (WTP 3) -- and another well (8B) is being planned near the east elementary school to provide additional capacity as needed. The cost of this next project has not been finalized.

Forgot to mention another rate increase later this year.

Yes, according to councilman Burrell the "rate study" now underway is expected to recommend more hikes.

It’s a win-win for residents of Fairhope. We get more homes, more crowded roads, hospitals, and schools. Add in more rate increases. Does it get any better than this?

Yes that is right. Everyone benefits when the economy is booming!

The mayor stated that the new well will increase capacity by an extra 2 million gallons per day, but where will that extra 2 million gallons be stored? Did they build a new water tower to store the extra 2 million gallons? I was told that there was always water available but it took to long to refill the tanks during high use in the summer. So yes, they dug a new well that can produce 2 million extra gallons per day, but where is it stored? Sounds fishy.

Economy booming? Okay and living in a grid of matchbox homes, apartments and crowded roads. Is not a good thing. People do not come to Fairhope to see concrete. Your grow or die is said by none other than those very few who are building multi complex apartments. Next election the residents can now see Fairhopes present path and decide.

The people who want to live somewhere population is falling should move to Detroit .... or Prichard maybe.

Water tanks are not for storing water. They are for maintaining pressure we were told.

Individuals who enjoy crowded roads and large apartment complexes. Endless fast food choices and ever increasing taxes should move to a larger city. Maybe Mobile. Fairhope is just the right size. We do not need to change it one bit. Thank you single tax colony for your wisdom.

Need some clarification on the water tank. Water pumped from a well has to be sanitized and then stored in a tank before going to the end user. If you take the City at their word one could assume that the water crisis from last year won’t occur again because of the new well but you still have to have storage. The City stated last year if I recall that the water was being used to quickly and the tanks didn’t have time to refill. So, if that is true then how will an extra 2 million gallons from a new well help if there is no storage?
