Help Coming For The "Worst Intersection In Town"?

Fairhope, Alabama

Fairhope at Ingleside

2015 report.

ROUNDABOUT TOO EXPENSIVE NOW?

The city council authorized the mayor to contract with traffic consultant Neel-Schaffer Engineering to come up with new solutions for the tricky Fairhope Avenue at Ingleside Street intersection -- besides the roundabout that was recommended ten years ago.

A 2015 report estimated a roundabout would cost $1.3 million, but that figure would be considerably higher today according to city engineer Johnson. Adjacent private property would have to be acquired as well.

Other options could be a traffic signal, limiting turns, and/or re-alignment for better visibility.

Councilman Burrell called it "the worst intersection in town."

Avoid it as much as possible if traveling either way at Ingleside.

I would agree that save some money and just avoid the intersection. There are other options to get on to Fairhope Ave. and Greeno off of that stretch. I would even advocate a barrier on the south side of Ingleside there at Fairhope Ave.

Hate to say it but the only realistic fix there is another traffic light.

Never had a problem there. But then I never pull out from Ingleside onto Fairhope.

People drive way too fast on that curve

Treacherous intersection! The mayor proposed right turns only which would certainly alleviate the problem at minimal cost.

The Mayor's proposal is reasonable. Let's give it a try.

what about a tunnel?

Build a tunnel! Now that's a good one!

A little traffic enforcement & close south side of Ingleside

bad idea to just close it to thrugh traffic. need it to get to hospital.

We won’t have law enforcement out on patrol. Grim reality. Closing peripheral roads when there are metered arterials makes sense.

If I lived in Fairhope, I would vote for the mayor. Her comment makes the most sense.

Well, I do live in Fairhope and I do live near the intersection. The Mayor has a great solution. Give it a try.

won't work has to be a thru street

Who says it has to be a through street? And why are so many drivers so lazy that they cannot drive one block in order to make a left turn?

the one going down to the pier is worse!

It does NOT have to be a through street. There are multiple ways for emergency vehicles to navigate that area.

Simple=limit to R/H turn North on Ingleside same on South travel-try first then consider trip light, now do the same at Wal-Greens ,R on exit only, and add cross over barriers for turn conditions that area is even worse.

Agree with the prior comment. A simple solution. At least the city leaders could approve trying that for 30 days. But instead they will need to spend $$ on a consultant to tell them what to do. We need people in office that don't over complicate issues.
