Another Controversial Barnwell Development Started

Fairhope, Alabama

Sherwood Highlands Road.

CALLED 'SHERWOOD GROVE'

Construction has begun on the 166-lot Sherwood Grove subdivision on 51 acres on Sherwood Highlands Road in the Barnwell area, just east of highway 181.

The Baldwin County planning commission actually recommended denial of this project two years ago when the area was still un-zoned (Dist. 39 now), but developer 68 Ventures appealed to circuit court on grounds all legal requirements had been met ... and the decision was reversed: the project was allowed to proceed.

Water is to be provided by the city of Fairhope with stipulation developer will install a new water main along Hwy 181 to the project (north to CR 32).

Sewer is by Baldwin County Sewer Service; electricity by BEMC.

Developer is to help the county install turning lanes at CR 24/Hwy 181 intersection too.

Is Faihope required to provide for this smear

Wow. First Silver hill now Barnwell. Boom Towns! Better incorporate.

If fairhope did not provide water some other provider would. But I do not understand why we still give away free police and fire way out there though.

Do not understand why a moratorium is not declared by county if sewage and water is inadequate. Traffic turn lanes ain’t gonna help. There must be some bored attorneys out there that could help out.

68 Ventures’ slogan must be “We pave paradise and put up a parking lot, and a strip mall of vacancies, and overpriced live-work-play pseudo communities because we love to make money and do not care what the locals say, or what the locals hold dear.

We will need a traffic light and turning lanes at 181 and 24 ( over $1,000,000) and a compleatly redesigned intersection at 181 and Sherwood Highlands Road ( at least another $1.000,000). Guess who gets to pay for this? We need speed bumps installed now on 24 and Sherwood Highlands Road.

Did not know there were some many communists in Barnwell against private property rights!

There’s a lot more houses and apartments coming and they will be occupied. The growth is really just starting with Austal, Airbus, the state docks all expanding. Then there’s the aluminum plant being built near Bay Minette. So move if you can, hunker down if you can’t.

People if you are interested at all in what a developer does to the land they are developing then take 181 south to 24 and turn left go to Sherwood Highlands Road and turn right. Go a short distance and on your right you will see what a developer does when they move in to develop the land. Equipment destroys everything in sight! So people that own the land should be able to do whatever they choose to do?? So when all the trees are gone and you plant some back to replace those then how long do you think it will take new trees to replace what all they bulldozed down. I call them money hungry jerks!! You can call them anything you want to but they are destroying our local environment. .

Right but who ever the locals were that sold their farm land to them should get blame too. Took the money and ran.

Thank God a few malcontents are not running things around here, they ignore most all of our Constitution.

Maybe you could raze YOUR house and replant the trees that once grew there. That would be a step in the right direction.
