Veterans Drive Tunnel Update

Fairhope, Alabama 

 Update: Road opening should be by the by first week in November, according to the mayor.

INSTALLATION ALMOST COMPLETED

The pedestrian/bike tunnel under Veterans Drive has been completed; only some landscaping and finishing details remain. 

Pink ribbons mark where the new connecting trail will be on the west side; trails on the east side are still being designed.

No official word yet on when the road will re-open to traffic.

I don't think that I would enter that tunnel without a group of people. It will be interesting to see if it reduces the number of people crossing the road as in the past. Did the city consider installing a crosswalk with lights instead?

Is there going to be a tunnel under the roundabout at the Flower Clock? Otherwise, won't you have to stop there on your bike and wait for traffic to stop so you can get to the tunnel?

The tunnel connects halves of the new Flying Creek Nature Park.

egregious waste of money. I give it a week before its full of graffiti.

Perhaps, this will keep the sanctioned graffiti off of our buildings and underground, where it belongs.

Yeah, especially the "FU" and graphic body parts they have a the skate park. Now that is art!
