Flowerclock Roundabout Finally Moving Ahead

Fairhope, Alabama

CONSTRUCTION BIDS SOLICITED

After being delayed by last-minute technical design fixes, area contractors are now being asked to submit bids for construction of a roundabout at the Section Street/Scenic 98/Veterans Drive/Triangle Drive intersection; construction should begin early next year if all goes as planned.

This is an Eastern Shore MPO project with 80% of funding from federal sources -- with a 20% match from the city.

The lowest bidder will be awarded the contract by the city council, according to state law.

Roundabout construction usually takes about 8 months. Cost is expected to be just under $2 million.

Stop light would be better

Perhaps a stop light would be better: however, it would not be fashionable. Back in the day, this area was called the "Y" and many accidents occurred. While the current configuration is awkward, it worked, which begs the question, why was a stop light not installed then?

People can't navigate a two way stop here without becoming confused. And now they will be expected to navigate a roundabout?

no more traffic signals! enough already!

huh? wasn't working if there were many accidents.

I luv roundabouts! More please!

Great plan and another tunnel connecting to the other tunnel. Those complaining probably have trouble backing out of their driveway and assume anything but a wide open road just for them is a problem. Let’s get it done!

Agree that traffic light would be better (smart light). Do we know if they will block all of Triangle Drive during construction? Would be a traffic nightmare on a traffic nightmare on residential streets.

Perfect spot for a traffic circle. Let us get it done.

Traffic Circles are scattered here and there on eastern shore. I prefer them over a stop light. Get er done.👍

Roundabouts are designed to keep trafficking flowing. Stop signs do exactly what they say, stop traffic! It’s a no-brainer to install a Roundabout at that busy intersection in my opinion.

How about another flower clok in the middle? Look good from space.
