Knoll Park Cleanup Getting Back On Track

Fairhope, Alabama

Knoll Park today.

MANAGEMENT PLAN FINALLY IMPLEMENTED?

After hitting the pause button over the summer, the plan to clean-up Knoll Park got started again today: invasive plants were being cut down and native ones planted around the perimeter, per a modified management plan based on the one adopted by the city council in in 2014.

New signs have been installed around the park too, explaining the overall pine forest restoration project; sprinklers are being repaired as well.

The city's urban forester Justin Hammers is managing the plan now, along with horticulturist Jamie Rollins.

I just wishe they would bring back the pretty azalea bushes that were there when I was young.

It is my understanding that The Single Tax deeded this park over to the city and the city is the one that let all those vines and trees grow up in those beautiful old azaleas. They , i guess , could not save the azaleas at some point because of the City’s neglect. What a waste.

No. The Single Tax Corp and city partnered to remove them and restore a pristine long leaf pine forest there instead. Did not work so far ..........

Many Fairhopeans know exactly what went down. It is a true shame and disgrace what happened. It was and could be again a lovely park. They could really make it nicer. Lights, sidewalks, benches, etc.

Azaleas, Dogwoods, etc. it was a park. What would you name it now. It didn’t work…. It really doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure it out. Someone PLEASE step up.

Just use a lot of Roundup on it.

In its current condition, it is a disgrace, especially when you compare it to other areas on the bluff.

Why does the City continue pushing to make this centrally located, small park a “longleaf forest project?” This is a City Park for the people of Fairhope. Leave the beautiful longleaf pines but put trails throughout with nice park benches and some low profile lighting. It seems to me that the City has allowed this park to become someone's “pet project” but maybe should consider just making it a nice, safe place for citizens to utilize.

The Current and past city councils have endorsed it.
