Mayor Sullivan Seeking Second Term

Fairhope, Alabama

Sullivan with council members.

Mayor Sullivan kicked-off her re-election campaign at the Provision restaurant across from city hall Wednesday.

Mayors from Daphne and Silverhill, council members Conyers, Boone, Martin and Robinson -- as well as other officials from around the county attended.

From the campaign's new website (click):

“When it comes to knowing how to help manage a city, I’ve got experience to draw from and I’m ready to put in the work.”

I worked for The City of Fairhope for almost 17 years. During that time, I was responsible for communications, events, the senior center, the museum and took over the recreation department for the last several years of my employment. I was also the project manager for the Fairhoper’s Community Park rebuild and the Fairhope Soccer Complex.

Most recently, I was Director of Governmental Affairs and Economic Development for Riviera Utilities, trying to find ways to help government work for and with the people to help better their lives.

While working for the City, I also served on the leadership team during Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina. I coordinated services for our residents and utility crews, and helped to set-up a medical unit in the Fairhope Rec Center gym during Katrina.

I have also been involved with numerous community organizations including Arts and Crafts, FEEF, Baldwin Pops, Kiwanis, the FHS Booster Club, the Eastern Shore Chamber, the Eastern Shore MPO and many others.  So many organizations contribute to the quality of life in Fairhope, and I am proud to have served with them.

If I am elected, I will focus on infrastructure, growth, stabilizing the work force and parks and recreation.

Anybody going to run against her?

Uuugh. Not Burrell. Please no. Mayor Sullivan has done a good job for us. She's earned a second term.

I don't know that immigration enforcement is really in the purview for a small town mayor. Let's stay on task here.

I agree that she has done a pretty good job trying to catch us up with all the growth. The Mayor in this local government is really a City Manager. Can’t blame her for all the Council decisions.

I heard the right wing radio guy Jeff Poor wants to run? Supposed to liv in the Fruit and Nut area. Anybody know him?

I think that, regardless of whether or not Sherri Sullivan is Mayor, we desperately need to hire an experienced City Manager that will make wise business decisions. The City pays out ridiculous amounts in litigation losses and wastes fortunes because of the City Council's decisions. A City Manager will dilute their power and be a better steward of our tax dollars.

People voted it down in 2018. 4 better or worse.

We have a lot of new voters now, many of whom have arrived from cities that have experienced financial issues due to the lack of expertise in financial issues. I think that this year a City Manager resolution would pass with flying colors.

Robinson already said he does not have time for the job ... ?

Fairhope is very fortunate to have a candidate for Mayor who is a native that knows our City infrastructure needs from the inside. She has already proven she do the job. However, if things don't work out, she would be the perfect City Manager

City Managers are like CEO's. They have MBA's or similar educational backgrounds; this is why they are so valued and why Fairhope and Mayor Sullivan, if she is re-elected, would benefit from their knowledge.

Many towns have city administrators running the show under their mayors. Seems to work well.

Please tell me there’s at least an alternative to her! Constant water issues, too much expansion, rubber stamps on new builds, terrible parking issues…I think Karen Wilson needs to come back!

Ha Ha funny. Exactly the same issues as seven years ago. How about somebody different?

John Manelos would be a great Mayor if he would agree to run again, although I have no idea if he has plans to do so.

BP guy. No thanks.

I guess now we know Karin has resurfaced…and posts on Fairhope Times!

Sherry Sullivan seems to be a wonderful person but a PR Person in Mayor’s seat is not a good choice. No, you cannot make everyone happy!! I think Burrell is still running the show. He needs to be gone and totally out of the equation. The Mayor needs to control the Police Department and Police need to follow rules just like the rest of the citizens in Fairhope. This town should be a working town not just a quaint flower location in Baldwin County. City of Fairhope … GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER!

I agree we need another option for Mayor. When there were issues with water shortage, all I heard her do was blame the citizens (for not cutting back usage) and prior city leadership. She took no personal responsibility...that's not a leader.

Sherry Sullivan is the best mayor ever! Can't imagine anyone running against her.

My interaction with Burrell has been on the Street and Traffic Committee. There is no doubt he runs the show. He talks a good game but unfortunately only accomplishes kicking the can down the road. His primary phrase is “let’s try something else first “ but then nothing happens. Seems like he doesn’t want to help with citizens complaints on speeding even though he has the authority to make very positive changes.

The new folks typically vote for the incumbents. They see pretty flowers, clean streets, and very little to no vacant buildings downtown and think the local officials are doing something right.

I voted for her last time but there's no chance that I will ever vote for her again. Our city has/had a water shortage as a result of unbridled residential growth ie over-building.
Rather than accept any responsibility, both she and the CC blamed the residents.
She has proven herself to be a liar and poor leader.
