Community cat needs help.

'MISSY' THE CAT

A homeless community cat called Missy that has been living in the city's French Quarter downtown for several years is now seeking financial help, according to a sign posted there recently. 

This is the same cat that was "catnapped" several years ago -- then returned by well-meaning visitors.

 Also answers to just "Kitty."

Don’t like this at all. Seems like a money grab by someone. There’s no telling how many tourist dollars will be dropped in that thing! Perhaps I’ll set one up by the pier with the assurance to donors that all the funds are going towards the care and feeding of the Purple Martins.
Perhaps a comforting gesture might be to donate excess funds to a spay and neuter organization?

If the cat was homeless why did everyone lose their minds when the cat was "rescued" by some well meaning visitors who didn't think it should live outside and were forced to return it?

I think the business owners and employees in the French Quarter have traditionally funded her food and medical needs. Perhaps it's not a bad idea to set up a Trust to ensure that her needs are met in the future if these people move away.

Fairhope has far too many feral cats. They can carry diseases such as rabies, toxoplasmosis, cat scratch disease to name a few.

Why would they allow a cat to take over a park bench near a food establishment and then ask for funds to feed it? This is ridiculous. Someone should just adopt this cat and take it to a nice home. The cat could care less if it sleeps on that bench or at someones home. I agree with the post above. People who have obsessions with feral cats are a little weird and probably have some ongoing mental issues.

Feral cats keep the rat population down. Some restaurants have had a rat problem in town since there are fewer cats. I rarely see any cats downtown anymore.
