FAUST-BOOTH GETS OPEN SEAT

Today's election results were all incumbent council members being re-elected except for Place 2 where Corey Martin narrowly-lost to challenger Joshua Gammon.

Andrea Faust Booth defeated George Ferniany for the open place 5 seat.

Turnout was 25% of registered voters.

The new council will be sworn in during the first council meeting in  November.

Faust-Booth left, Gammon right.

Martin's calm and genuine demeanor will be missed. Move along Rebecca Watson. Don't try that in a small town.

People think Martin is a liberal democrat!

Sad to see Corey Martin lose this election. I'm sure that he took the hit because of the 'migrant' uproar a couple of years ago, but I think that was all overblown and nothing bad ever came of it. Perhaps he will run again next time and get his seat back. I was happy that everyone else was re-elected and hope that the M4L group move to another city that they can try to control.

Very disappointing to see mostly the same people back on the council. Expect continued over development and infrastructure problems. And 75% of the voters have no right to complain.

No. M4L should stay and continue to participate in the democratic process.

Glad to see him go. He usurped authority that he did not have, outrageously presuming to speak for others and inviting immigration chaos into our community. Those who signal their virtue by patronizing candidates because of their race show the ultimate disrespect for their community...and to those candidates. Elect the candidates who will serve us all and serve us best--irrespective of color, race, or creed.

Corey is a good Christian man. Hate to see him go!

25% turnout is disappointing. Kudos to all that did turn out, regardless of outcome. Why did the legislature move the municipal elections to a staggered year? Does not make sense to me.

Election was moved to not coincide with presidential/national election cycle.

What an unmitigated disaster the nineteenth amendment has turned out to be. I wonder if anyone back in 1920 was predicting the damage it would cause to the nation.

??? Might municipal elections at the same cycle as the national
ensure a larger turnout at the polls? Many more people complain about things yet don’t vote to try and change them.

Pitiful turn out of voters for sure.

The excuses I saw for not voting on social media were pathetic. The polls are open from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Surely everyone knows that parking downtown is an issue most every day between 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. So you look for a different time to vote. Go early or go later and especially if you are retired. Fairhopians are lazy, are okay with the status quo, or don't like their choices. The turnouts for national and state elections are also ridiculously low.
