Popular Downtown Mural Demolished

'ABORIGINAL SEALIFE'

Ameri'ca Tickle's 'Aboriginal Sea Life' mural on the west side of the former Fairhope Hardware building in downtown came down today; the building is being demolished by current owners. 

The building was constructed by the Single Tax Corporation in 1921 as the Peoples Cooperative Store, a general store.

The mural's installation was sponsored by FEEF in 2003 and refurbished in 2013.

Being a Fairhoper for over 50 years….The Mural is symbolic to me as everything Fairhope was in the past is pretty much gone.
The quaintness,small town ambience etc.
And I saw the young lady painting THE MURAL and I thought it was GREAT

Yep and half of it was left scattered all over Fairhope Avenue and Greeno Road.

Oh yes, as least half...if not all of it. Those roads may remain impassible for years to come--though it may have been the sky falling, and not the demo. Hard to say, but certainly we're all doomed.
