REDISTRICTING CONFUSION AFFECTING TURNOUT?

Turnout appeared to be low as-predicted at Fairhope polls this afternoon for the 2016 primary election: there were more last-minute campaigners waving signs than actual voters it seemed.

 Polls will be open until 7PM; results should start coming in by 8 PM.

It was a terrible turnout, mostly old folks. Young ones don’t care? Very troubling for our democracy.

Publisher: Help me out. Our ballot in Fairhope had all five county commissioner districts listed, with all candidates running in those districts. I was under the impression that we only voted for the candidate(s) running in our specific district, as was done with our state senate candidates. Was I wrong? Is it done at large, similar to city council?

Yes ... Baldwin County Commission is "at large" .... anyone in the county may vote for each district's candidates ....

You know, a county this size, that is ridiculous, not to mention confusing to a voter. It was never made clear to me that commission districts were “at large” and we follow things pretty closely.
It is time to change “districts” and “places” to assigned boundaries with residency requirements for better representation. We’re not a village anymore.

I’ll be writing them about it! Houston County has a third of our population and they have a single district on a ballot. These type of things are what make folks suspicious of government and what type of representation they have.
What do Gulf Shores voters know what Bay Minette voters are doing? I want to vote for a commissioner that resides in my district, and knows what our district issues are.
