PECAN AVENUE ANNEX

Construction of the city's new hurricane safe room at the Pecan Avenue annex will start tomorrow (August 17); issues with the FEMA grant have been resolved. 

FOR FIRST RESPONDERS

Low-bidder Roy Lewis Construction was awarded a $1.9 million contract by the city council to construct a first responders' safe room -- to be built at the city's Pecan Avenue warehouse facility using a FEMA hazard mitigation grant: the city's share will be 10%.

The 4072 square foot building will withstand winds of up to 200 mph.

Construction could take up to a a year.
