MUNICIPAL BEACH PARK
A Times reporter encountered a small (about 3 feet long) alligator swimming in a pond at municipal beach this morning, which is not unusual there. The city's policy for the small ones is to leave them alone until they "show no fear of humans."
There is still no explanation that we know of for the larger one found (8 ft.) on Fairwood Boulevard about a quarter mile inland recently. Speculation is it crawled up the nearby gully, then across Section Street and Bancroft Avenue ... for some reason.
Alligators grow about a foot every year.
