FINAL SELECTIONS COMING

Councilman Burrell said recently there were about seventy-two submissions from around the country  for two new public art pieces to be placed in the center of the new 'Flowerclock/Veterans Drive' round about and at CR 44/13 on Twin Beech Road near the airport.

Last March the city council asked the Eastern Shore Art Center's Committee on Public Art (COPA) to solicit proposals from artists, evaluate each, and make recommendations to the council.

Themes were to be 'downtown Fairhope' and 'airport' respectively.

Burrell said the city council will consider a final four chosen by COPA -- and choose the two winners during an upcoming council meeting.

Burrell said the goal is for art at all of the roundabouts; 'Cat Tail Sculpture' was donated and installed at CR 13/CR 48 in 2019.

I’m not sure who maintains the roundabout at 13+32 but other than mowing just the grass in the circle there are weeds 4 feet tall around the approach. If they would use a weed eater when they come out to mow it would be artwork to me.

Of all the artists we have here locally, the council decided to solicit art from somewhere else?
