STILL WAITING FOR FRONT ENTRANCE DOORS
Additional internal water damage was apparent after the contractor removed more defective exterior EIFS siding material this week; but new custom made front doors won't be ready to install until October 10, according to informed city sources.
Composite siding is to be installed on the exterior instead of EIFS. It is still hoped completion will be before annual holiday activities are scheduled to begin in the downtown area.
High humidity inside the building was the main reason for the project.
From a May 2026 FT report:
"Low bidder Fairhope Building Company has begun repairs to the Welcome Center in downtown on Section Street. Cost is $527K to remove leaking existing material from the exterior and replace it with siding — to prevent moisture intrusion. Contractor has 120 days for completion."
