North Beach Park.

'RESTORE' GRANT' APPLIED FOR

The city's municipal beach could get a much-needed autonomous walking trail if a new $8.9 million RESTORE grant being applied for by the city gets approved; bluff erosion control measures, shoreline stabilization, and duck pond storm drainage improvements are included in the proposal as well.

Pedestrians have to compete with cars on the the narrow one way drive through the park; funding for a trail was solicited from the state via a different grant in 2018 but it was not approved at that time.

If approved, the north beach park restoration project will be implemented in stages; the Alabama Gulf Coast Recovery Council will meet soon to decide how to distribute remaining funds from 2010 BP oil spill fines. Mayor Sullivan is a member.

City council resolution.
