Fairhope, Alabama
OLD MAGNET THEATER SITE
The Planning and Zoning Commission has approved a site plan for "The Theater Building" -- proposed for the vacant lot at the corner of Fairhope Ave. and Church St. -- where the historic old Magnet Theater building had burned early last year and ultimately had to be demolished.
Two restaurants are planned for the ground floor and the rest is to be retail space, according to Planning Director Johnathan Smith.
The large live oak tree on the southwest corner of the property will be saved, according to Smith.
Smith told the Times he is pleased with the New Orleans style "creole" design of the proposed building.
